Teen dating versus studying
In this lesson, we will discuss strategies school staff and school counselors can use to help students regarding how to safe-guard themselves against or safely remove themselves from situations of teen dating aggression, abuse and violence.
Teens need to understand what a healthy relationship is and how to have one. When children are provided education on a safe and healthy relationship as well as warning signs of an abuser, they have a better foundation for making the right choices before they get into a bad situation. It is important to keep an eye out for warning signs of abusers (possessiveness, paranoia or jealousy, outbursts or mood swings, aggressive behavior, suicidal tendencies) and signs of the abused (mood changes, flinching, weight change, grades dropping, change of appearance, bruising). But do not jump to conclusions, instead do research, talk to the teens, and determine if your theories are correct. Then assist them, listen to them, and make sure to place value on how they feel, so they know you understand.Once they leave the relationship the work is not done, make sure they know they have more support and to help show them what a healthy relationship is.
